National Poetry Day 2015

Thursday, 8th October 2015

On Thursday 8th October the whole country celebrated National Poetry Day. The theme for the year was ‘light’. This inspired writing that ranged from traffic lights to stars in outer space! The whole school were challenged with the task of learning a poem and reciting it from memory, then also sharing their own poetry in imaginative ways. The hall was filled with verse as classes performed shape, simile, acrostic, narrative and funny poems. People displayed their work through drama and art as well as in written form. The children had a terrific afternoon and enjoyed showcasing their work as well as listening to the work done by others. If your child enjoyed the poetry session, you could take them to the local library where they could borrow books which contain a range of poems written by different authors.
