This week we have been learning about Bonfire Night and we had a Bonfire theme day on Thursday where we went to see the Bonfire in the outdoor learning garden. We tried toasted marshmallows and sang lots of songs.
Inside Nursery we made some bonfire collages and used chalk to create our very own firework pictures. We also made some yummy chocolate apples to take home.
We have been learning all about autumn this half term; we have been watching the leaves on the trees change colour and talking about how the weather is getting colder and wetter. Abdul told us all that it is dark on a morning when he gets up.
Today we went outside to look at all the leaves in the playground. Mr Rusling came out with his leaf blower and we had lots of fun trying to catch all the flying leaves. We threw the leaves in the air and watched them fly in the wind, we laid down and made leaf angels, then we rolled down the hill and landed in a big pile of soft leaves at the bottom.
We had some special visitors in school today. Mags from Animal Intuition brought lots of different animals for us to see, touch and hold. We saw two chickens, a snake, a tortoise, lots of cockroaches and even a tarantula! We were all very excited to see the animals and some of us were even brave enough to hold the animals. Zakirah said the tarantula felt fluffy and soft when it was walking on her hands, but Romeesa said it felt tickly. Abdul’s favourite animal was Monty the python, he said he was very soft and smooth.
Eid – 25/09/2015
On Wednesday we made our own Eid cards to take home for our families, we had lots of fun colouring them in and covering them (and ourselves!) in glitter.
We celebrated Eid by having a class party on Friday. We all came to school looking fabulous in our party clothes. We did lots of singing and dancing, played pass the parcel and musical statues. Everybody won some prizes to take home.
Thank you to all those families who brought food in for our party, it was delicious.
We have been settling into Nursery over the last couple of weeks, getting used to our routines and making new friends. All the children have been exploring the different areas and resources around the classroom.
We have enjoyed learning new songs and nursery rhymes together, splashing around in the water area, making sandcastles, painting wonderful pictures, building amazing models in the construction area, reading stories and playing on the iPads. We had fun making some chocolate fairy buns and iced them ourselves. Our main role play area is our pet shop, children have been learning how to be a shopkeeper, buy animals and their accessories and look after animals.
We have also introduced a new area called “Funky Fingers”, which will promote fine motor skills. This week we have been using tweezers to sort different coloured pom-poms into matching coloured bowls.
With all the recent snow, we have taken the opportunity to go outside and investigate.
We have made patterns with our footprints, brushes and rakes. We practised writing our names in the snow with paintbrushes. We tried to improve our throwing skills by having a snowball fight. We built a snowman and even helped Reception class build an igloo!
We played some party games, did some dancing, had a special snack time with all the party food which was brought in, then we did some Christmas bauble colouring.
November: Animal Visit.
Animal Intuition came to visit the school. We got to see some rats, snakes and even a tarantula!
We learnt how to care for animals then we took it turns to meet the animals and hold them.
We talked about what the animals looked and felt like, where they live in the wild and what sort of food they eat.
Cannon Hall Farm – 13/06/2014
The children enjoyed a lovely day out seeing the different types of animals at Cannon Hall Farm.
Art Attack – 30/04/2014
We decided to create an art attack outside yesterday and today. We created a collage using lots of different materials, because we had so much fun we will be doing it again tomorrow. Can you spot all the different items we used?
Chicks Hatching – 30/04/2014
We had a wonderful surprise waiting for us this morning, four chicks had hatched. All the mums and dads and Miss Carr came and had a look, but what was even better, one chick hatched when we were in nursery.
Chickens – 28/04/2014
We are all excited, our eggs were delivered today! Steve told us all about how the eggs were going to hatch. Steve has left all the important equipment; the eggs have been put into an incubator where they are being kept warm. Steve told us that the eggs will hatch in 2 to 3 days, we can’t wait.
We are going to be watching and listening carefully because when the eggs start to hatch you can often hear cheeping, and they begin to wobble. If you cheep to the eggs they often cheep back!
If you’re lucky you can see the eggs hatch.Click here to watch the live camera.
Easter – 10/04/2014
In nursery we have been busy making Easter baskets. All our baskets are ready, we hope the Easter bunny doesn’t forget to come to nursery.
Pancake Day – 04/03/2014
On Tuesday 4th of March 2014 it was Pancake Day. We had lots of fun mixing the ingredients and then eating the pancakes with ice-cream.
Pancake Day is the last day before the period which Christians call Lent. It is traditional on this day to eat pancakes. Lent is a time of abstinence, of giving things up. So Shrove Tuesday is the last chance to indulge yourself, and to use up the foods that aren’t allowed in Lent. Pancakes are eaten on this day because they contain fat, butter and eggs which were forbidden during Lent.
It was interesting to see and compare what different religions do. We found out Christian’s give of something that they really enjoy, we also found out that in Ramadan Muslims also give up food between dawn and sunset.
Our teacher Miss Hall has given up chocolate, she will not eat chocolate for 40 days.
Phonics Workshop – 20/02/2014
A big thank you to all the parents for attending the Phonics Workshop. Everyone had lots of fun looking at the letters and practising the sounds they make. Decorating them was also fun.
Mums and dads were given a pack to take so they could play phonics games at home.
Road Safety – 13/02/2014
Today the road safety lady came to our school; she told us how to cross roads safely. She said you should always hold an adults hand, look, listen and think before crossing the road. We went back to nursery and practised crossing safely.
Chinese New Year – 31/01/2014
Today is Chinese New Year; it is the year of the horse. In nursery we have been painting horses and we enjoyed noodles for our snack.
Library – 14/01/2014
Our home library is very popular, thank you to the mums for coming in and choosing books to take home. We run our home library every Thursday morning.
one of our very talented children sang ‘I’m Walking in the Air’ from the movie, ‘The Snowman’. He received a special sticker and certificate from Miss Carr.
