Update about Gas Leak

Wednesday, 30th April 2014

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Thank you ever so much for your support and co-operation during our emergency yesterday. We did have a small gas leak by the mains outlet which we identified quickly. We followed our emergency evacuation plans and all children were taken to Green Lane Primary whilst we decided on the best course of action.  Deciding to close school is never an easy decision but where the health and safety of children and staff is at risk then it becomes essential. I felt it was the most convenient option for staff members to walk children home who live within walking distance. Families a little further out were phoned up and asked to collect children from Green Lane. It did take us quite a while to get in touch with some parents. It is vital we have your up to date contact details in case of emergency so please contact the office if these change.

Please do be assured that we have emergency plans in place to ensure that the health and safety of your children are our upmost priority and we will never do anything to risk that. I know it can be frustrating awaiting information but we do try and contact everyone by text, where possible, to let them know arrangements. It can take a little while when we have 250 children to care for.

I would like to thank our Atlas staff for their support in taking children home and delivering them safely to your homes and also to the children for their calm and sensible attitude and behaviour throughout. I am just thankful that the sun was shining and it wasn’t raining!

Can I remind families about our Atlas concert tomorrow afternoon at 2.00pm in the hall. Each class in main school has written a song around the theme of respect, linking in with our work on human rights. I can assure you that you will be in for a real treat and they sound amazing. If you are coming to watch then you need to be here by 2.00pm. We will not let anyone in after 2.00pm as it is unfair on the children to be disturbed, the doors will be open from 1.45pm for you to come in and find a seat. Everyone is welcome.

Monday 5th May is a bank holiday for all so school will be closed and will re-open on Tuesday 6th May at 8.45am. Please ensure your child is in the playground when the bell sounds, we are having too many children coming in late.

Kind Regards,

Miss Carr
